# Installing flat roof sensor (2nd generation)

Step 1: Power Check

- Sensors are shipped with the power ON by default.
- If off, follow [this guide](https://help.tector.com/turn-on/off-the-sensor) to **switch them on.**

Step 2: Select Installation Location

- Locations should be determined before installation. Follow sensor placements from the blueprint.

Step 3: Prepare the Insulation

- Cut a circular hole with a diameter of 11–12cm into the insulation layer. This opening is slightly larger than the sensor, making it easy to position.

Step 4: [Register the sensor](https://help.tector.com/register-your-sensors).

- Scan the QR code and follow the on-screen instructions to complete registration.

Step 5: Place the Sensor

- Position the sensor within the prepared hole on the water proofing membrane and beneath the insulation.

Step 6: Cover with Insulation

- Place the insulation layer over the installed sensor.

- The sensor should never be exposed directly to rain and shall be covered immediately upon installation
